MEETING 11-06-08

Dave I called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM at the Squirrel Camp.

Dave I asked for the minutes to be accepted, and Jan motioned and Cathy seconded.  The ayes were unanimous.

Roll Call: Bob, Dick, Dave I, Ken, Cathy, Jan, Ron, Pat, Charlie, William, Katherine, Glenn, Bebe, Craig, Pete, Barbara, Pete’s wife, and Bernard, Pete’s father, and guests William Herd and Jim Whittet.

President’s report – Dave I said he had no report.

Vice President’s report – Charlie discussed the December shoot.  Not enough scores are available for a championship shoot.  December will be an open shoot for the championship.  So, if Scott Pickens shows up, he will win the yearly championship at the December shoot.  Charlie asked for someone to motion for the new shoot, and Jan motioned and William seconded.  The ayes were unanimous except for William who voted nay in absentia for Burt in Montana.   William added that Leroy was a good shooting mentor.  Leroy will be here tomorrow.  Craig agreed with William that Leroy was very knowledgeable with archery as well as shooting and helped everyone as had Duane, Lori, and Roger.  William added the Leroy was the one who advised him to put his gun on half cock to save his main spring.

Charlie went on to say that we need someone to help club members with their shooting and throwing.  Katherine cautioned that not all good shooters were good teachers.  Edgar could really teach.  Charlie said he would try to round up Leroy for a January Shoot.  Craig said a seminar on gun flints would be helpful.  Bob brought up the Southeastern Rendezvous as we did the shooting events.  William said all the club would help before and after the Southeastern Rendezvous, and probably more than just range work during the Rendezvous.  We also need demonstrations for the Rendezvous.  Charles went back to the club and said we could rotate the seminars from black powder to archery to hawk and knife.  Pat said we could also rotate the people doing the seminars.  Charlie went on to say that with members giving each other info, Bob might even shoot a bow and arrow.  Craig said that right now all we do now is shoot, and then go home.  We need helpers rather than just one person.  Pat added that it is more than doing.  We need to plan and coordinate.  Bob said that if we help the ladies load for their shoot, they might just shoot on their own.  Charlie thought we should provide smooth bore, rife, pistol, archery, and hawk and knife.

Treasure’s report – David I said there was nothing to report.

Secretary’s report - Ron said he would be moving forward on the member list again.

OLD BUSINESS

Dave I brought up purchasing archery targets.  Charlie said that if we had a minimum order of 10 we would get a better deal per target at 5-10 off wholesale.  Please contribute to make our targets cheaper.  The company with that offer has deer with 3 positions, alert, grazing, and not alert, with javelins, turkeys and more.  We are ordering 7 targets so if someone wants a target that is affordable, call Charlie.

Dave I brought up property other than the current property we are using.  The property Dick presented, Cheryl’s property, is on a 20 year lease and is by Chipley.  It is something we should keep an eye on, although it is further away than our present location.  We need to cut a lane through the dense grape vines, brush, and trees bordering the road for 50 feet.  After that it opens up with trees with open space where we can camp.  Robert, William, Charlie, Pat and Dave I went on visit to inspect the site.

Dave I said John is not here to comment on the March 2009 Beau Turner Youth Hunting Education Day.  Dave I, Ron, and Duane said they could go, but we need 6.

Pat brought up the Club Rendezvous at Ochlockonee River.   The cost should be $800.  Dinner and prizes will run $300.  Additional cost will include medallions $30, competition supplies $30, and signs $10.  We have $5,000 in the bank so the Rendezvous should not be a problem.  The fee to camp is $15 and if 50 campers pay that is $750 and we should get 65 camp sites.  Pat said we could have a club social on Friday costing $200 with something like Bebe doing oysters.   Dave I discussed the matter and Jan said we should put it in the budget.  Bob motioned for the club to accept the club social and Glenn seconded.  The ayes were unanimous except for Charlie voting nay for Bert in Montana.  The Club Rendezvous will be Febraury12-15, 2009.

Pat also brought up the welcome letter, and described it.  She will email a copy to Ron.

Pat had updated the web site and got with Bobby Guris about maintaining it.  Charlie complimented Pat on all her hard work.  Dave I said he will also get with Bobby Guris to get the information on updating the web site.

Bob brought up the Southeastern Rendezvous.  This will be more than just running the shooting activities.  We will run the water pipe to the facet sites.  We will pay part of it, but also get to keep it.  Al Benslay is running this with outside help.  Although not compete the tasks are as follows:

            Gate

            County will help with mowing

            Camper information

Work deal for set up the weekend before

            Charlie will take the targets

Water pipes to be put in

            Fire wood

            Run the shooting activities

            Help with other tasks

Charlie said that if we do 1/2 to 2/3 of the Rendezvous, we need to add this Rendezvous to our sign.  He went on to say the site is pretty good.  So we need to show up and work.  There is a good water supply, and all the wood is done.  Hooters have been arranged.  Duane is the Treasure and Pat is the Scribe.  The Boy Scouts will do the parking lot.  Al anticipates 100 camp sites and 200 campers.  The area is a hay field, so we will need to clean up all the items left behind, so it can be farmed again without incident.  Finally the site is not real flat so mud should not be a problem.  To get there from Highway 19 (Tara Blvd) in Lovejoy, Georgia take a right after passing the Walmart and at the Wachovia Bank, and go east on McDonough Rd.  Right after coming over the railroad turn left or you will be going down Hastings Bridge Rd.  It is 1-2 miles to Babbs Mill Rd where you turn right. (Secretary Note:  Or per Google Map for I 75, take exit 221 on I 75, turn left or west for Jonesboro Rd toward Lovejoy.  The road going right or east is Fayetteville Rd.  Follow Jonesboro Rd for 5-6 miles, and turn left at Babbs Mill Rd for 24 Babbs Mill Rd, Hampton, GA 30228.)  Dave I said we need volunteers for the Southeastern especially the weekend before the Rendezvous.  Bob said it would be a work weekend, although the water and road are there.  Charlie believed that the mowing will be mostly done, but we may need to finish.  There will plenty to do this week end so this should be a club effort.  Finally if anyone wants to stay the week and help, that would be appreciated, or just set up early even partially.

Dave I interrupted the Rendezvous talk to mention that we had a guest, Jerry Herd, who is a friend of Jim Andre.  Also attending was guest Jim Whittet.

NEW BUSINESS

Dave I said we need a good work day to get ready for the Club Ochlockonee River Rendezvous.  That should be a full day, and would be on the Saturday of the shoot weekend, December 13, 2009 at 9 AM at the Club Rendezvous site.  William and Glenn have splitters if the wood is cut to length.  We will need to cut and haul and split and stack the wood for the coming Club Rendezvous.    Jan will get the coffee going and will also do lunch.  Pat requested that Tables need fixing or replacing.   Also handicap access needs to be improved.  Jan said he would complete the handicap access.

Dave I then brought up nominations for officers for 2009 with the election being the December 2008 meeting.  First, all officers were asked if they would serve another year.  All agreed.  Dave A has been the Treasurer soooo long, nobody gave a second thought that he was not there to accept.  Pat motioned that David I be president and Ron seconded.  Charlie motioned Bob be vice president and Glenn seconded.  Dave A was motioned by Charlie for Treasure and Bob seconded.  Charlie motioned that Ron be Secretary and Pat seconded.  For Parliamentarian Pat motioned for Cathy and Charlie seconded.  Dave I then said that Ken and William were going out from the Board of Directors.  Right now the Board of Directors is Ken, William, Pat, and John or Gary.  Cathy motioned that Dick be nominated for a Board and was seconded by Charlie.  Pete was nominated by Charlie and seconded by Cathy.  Bob stated the nominations are open until the vote.

Bob said the Secretary should get with the Treasurer to send in the qualification of Bob, Gary, Deni, and Jan for Range Certification.  The money is there.

Dave I asked for motion to close the meeting at 8:05 PM. Pat motioned and Glenn seconded, and the ayes were once again unanimous, except Jan who said maybe.

There as no dinner so there was no clean up.
